CC2652P: Thread & Zigbee coexist

Part Number: CC2652P

Tool/software:

Hi Ti Support,

I am looking for solution of Thread & Zigbee for linux host.

If one CC2652 flashed with the operthread rcp FW and another one CC2652 flashed with the zigbee znp FW, and they have separate antenna, do i need the PTA connection of them to coexist?

If the PTA connection is required, which one should be master?

How many device can be connected on the PTA?

If i want other TI MCU / Module running ble / wifi / other 2.4Ghz protocol to coexist, and they all have separate antenna, should I connect all of their PTA parallelly and make one as master?

What about all 2.4GHz device having a shared antenna?

Thank you so much.

  • Hi,

A lot of good questions here. I'll answer according to what I know, and if more details are needed I may recommend creating a separate post for it to loop in the right expert.

If there are separate antennas, you may still need to ensure sufficient physical isolation. The definition of "sufficient physical isolation" may depend on several factors, so I recommend to have a separate HW post if more details are needed.

Assuming sufficient antenna isolation, since Thread and Zigbee use the same PHY, then using different channels should allow enough over-the-air isolation. In that case coex may not be needed.

Coex would be required if same channel is used, or antennas are not sufficiently, physically isolated. In that case, which one is master is determined by the application/system design to determine which one should have precedence in steady state.

    2 devices.

For separate antennas, you again must consider if they are sufficiently, physically isolated. The requirements of this may change based on the number of antennas you are using....e.g may mean that you have a larger overall product if more space is required.

For same antenna, this reverts to separate antennas that are not sufficiently, physically isolated.

PTA is one-to-one. Theoretically you could have some protocol which arbitrates between N x RF devices. This is not supported by TI at this time.

To reiterate, at this time, to my knowledge TI supports Coex for:

    1. BLE and Wi-Fi
    2. 802.15.4 and Wi-Fi

    Thanks,
    Toby
