sources of Zstack pro

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: Z-STACK, TIMAC

Hello,

I'm working with the Zstack pro end I noticed that most of low level layers (NWK, MAC..) are not open sources. I wonder if it's a choice of Texas or if there is a solution to get it.

If any one has a clue...

  • I've never seen any comment or other indication suggesting that TI makes any further sources available for Z-stack, which is unfortunate for me since maybe if it were available I'd be interested in running it on some of the TI OMAP / ARM devices as well (or even if the appropriate binaries were available).

I believe it is stated somewhere in the zstack documentation that the MAC layer is basically a modified version of the TIMAC 802.11.4 MAC implementation; I'm not sure what the modifications are, though.  But TIMAC (the general version not exactly what is in the ZSTACK distribution) is distributed and documented as a different package.

Perhaps someone from TI can comment as to whether additional source modules / documentation / object code versions for other TI MCUs (e.g. ARM) are potentially going to be available via any means, and what is different between TIMAC and Z-STACK's version of it.

  • In order to maintain ZigBee compliance and IP integrity, the source code for the stack is generally not available. If required, it can be obtained, but for a high price.

I doubt we'll see the stack move to ARM or OMAP anytime soon. Not because it isn't a good idea (M3 would be a terrific platform), but just because the resources aren't there to do it.

For a comparison between ZigBee 06, 07 and 07 Pro, take a look at the beginning of the ZigBee module found here ...  http://tiexpressdsp.com/index.php?title=Low_Power_RF_Solutions#Workshop_Contents
