pcb folded dipole antenna with cc2480

For the reference design of the folded dipole given in  Application note  AN040,  what is the pcb thickness to be used for fr4 substrate?

Can we use solder mask dielectric above the pcb antena?

if we use it , Will it reduce the range?

  • Hello Saumya,

If you download the reference design from the website, you will find a readme file included with the PCB layer description.  Regarding the dielectric .. have a look at our designs/EM ... you should notice that there is indeed dielectric over the antenna trace.

FILE: CC2400EM_FD_REFERENCE_DESIGN_1_31.ZIP PACKED WITH WinZIP PACKED WITH WinZIP

PCB DESCRIPTION:4 LAYER PCB 1.0 MM NOMINAL THICKNESS WITH 0.35um Cu PER LAYER
                   DIELECTRIC FR4
Dielectric constant for FR4 is 4.5
Dimensions in manufacturing files are in mils (0.001 inch)
                   DOUBLE SIDE SOLDER MASK,
                   DOUBLE SIDE SILKSCREEN,
5 MIL MIN TRACE WIDTH AND 8 MIL MIN ISOLATION.

    Hope this helps!
