Packet Sniffer for EZ430-RF2480

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2531

Hello,

I am using EZ430-RF2480 to carry out my Master Thesis. I am thinking about using a Packet Sniffer to visualize the packtes going over the air.

Any advice regarding wich one to purchase?

Thanks,

Gonzalo.

  • Hello Gonzalo,

If are able to purchase it, I would recommend the packet sniffer from Daintree.  http://www.daintree.net/    It is compatible with our Zigbee radios and can decode packets for you, which is a very nice feature.

Otherwise TI does have a free packet sniffer, that does not decode packets and is kept rather simple.  (Ie there is also no graphical image of a network)

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers,

  • Thank you,

I had already been taking a look to the daintree packet sniffer but, of course, i can't afford it. Moreover, i dont need that much information about my network, just to see the packets OTA is enought.

About the TI sniffer: its just a software right? What do I need to "sniff" the information?

    Thank you,

    Gonzalo.

  • Hi Gonzalo:

Sorry to use your message to post my question, I hope that my question can be seen by more TI staff this way~

I'm using the TI Packet Sniffer right now. I bought a CC2531 usb dongle and use it as a sniffer hardware and I download the latest version of the packet sniffer software.

But when I plug in the cc231 to the PC, only the right led is on and it won't blink, the green one is off. When I start the packet sniffer software and click the "start the packet capture" button, the PC gives me a Beep sound and the software won't run.

I'm sure that I have installed the driver right, (there is a CC2531 USB Dongle under Cebal controlled devices in my Device Manager) but I'm not sure why the software won't work with the cc2531 device. Anybody have any idea why this happens?

Any help would be deeply appreciated!
