Packet Sniffer startup error: "Communication error!"

The two jumpers at P3, between and above the two I/O connectors at the bottom of the board, are connected improperly. Connect them horizontally rather than vertically and you should be fine.

They are horizontal - connecting pins in the same direction as the boards edge. I've never changed those jumpers.

If I take them out or mount them vertically the error goes away but I still don't sniff any packets. I have an Integration WPA  analyser so I know packets are being sent. I've tried two different SmartRF04 boards (V1.9) both show the same error.

Hmmm ... I have a version 2.0 SmartRF04EB with a version 1.2 CC2430EM on it that works perfectly ... jumpers horizontal. Maybe there's a problem with the 1.x SmartRF04EB boards. You are setting the channel correctly, right?

Post the version of your CC2430EM boards here.

Hi,

The CC2430DK_EM boards are REV 1.6.

I have some CC2431DK_EM_ref Rev 1.3 boards. If I try to use one of these the packet sniffer spots the chip and complains "Unknown Chip Type".

I have the channel set to 0x0B. I assume this is channel 11, which is the same as I have set on the WPA analyser.

I've hunted through my junk box and found an ancient CC2430EM board (rev 1.3 2006-06-091). It works fine.

The latest CC2430DK_EM boards (rev 1.6) give the error message.
