Can Zigbee stack on CC2480 be upgraded

Presently the CC2480 ships with the Zigbee 2006. The Zigbee 2007 stack is already released so question is can I as an end user upgrade the version of the stack.

From what I can figure out, the CC2480 is based on the CC2430F128, and therefore my guess is possible that it should be possible to reflash the part with different versions of the Zigbee stack. If one cannot update the firmware, how will TI add additional features as the Zigbee stack evolves.

Then another question. Do TI have any plans to release an AT Command mode for the CC2480; then it could be used as a wireless modem. I know some other vendors, eg Maxstream offer such a mode. Very handy I must say.

The CC2480 is not upgradable to ZigBee-2007 but please keep an eye out for future network processors like the CC2480.

Eric,

The Hayes, AT command set can be implemented as an application example using the RF2480. We have not implemented this.

Future network processors would be based on more advanced technology and unfortunately will not be pin compatible with the CC2480. Maybe you can design your solution as a module and when the new (smaller) device is available you can fit it to a module of the same size with the same interface. If you are not already aware, we have quite an extensive network of third parties that have modules who could provide you with a solution and possibly a migration path.

Radiocrafts has en RC2300-ZNM module that has the same interface as the CC2480. It also comes in a high power version with same footprint. Future network processors are axpected to be supported in same footprint.(Given that the next network processor is not a bigger chip...). Check the website www.radiocrafts.com.
