Using CC2431 for a 3D tracking system

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2431

HI all,

I am doing a tracking system using CC2431 and wondering if it is possible to create a 3D tracking system?

  • I have kind of similar plans, although since all my tracked devices start on one level I am planning a software solution for logging when they leave the original level. Please let me know about your experiences. A exchange of information could be useful here :)

  • One idea for 3D tracking, if the third dimension is per floor and not something that requires better granularity along the third dimension, would be to simply take the number of devices the blind node receives messages from (adding information for the Z coordinate in the broadcast packets) and choose the floor that has the most number of devices reporting.  Antenna orientation and environment is obviously going to have a major impact on results, but if you're in a building with metal between floors you should get very good results.  Also if you are using a whip antenna and can ensure the mobile device is positioned on the same plane as the devices on the floor you should get good results as well.  Something to experiment with.  let us know how things turn out.
