What´s the meaning of Endpoints

Hi,

I wanna solve a question concerning the endpoints in ZigBee Home Automation.

For each physical device we can have up to 240 endpoints.

These endpoints means a logical device? For example, my physical device must turn ON/OFF light and measure the power consumption. So will I need 2 endpoints? One for lightning and one for measurements?

Hi,

It's better I think, to let one application per endpoint. One endpoint is defined by a profile, a device Id (application).

One simple way to think about is if you designed a zigbee power strip. Each outlet on that power strip would be its own endpoint since potentially each outlet can be turned On/Off. If each outlet did submetering, you can put a metering cluster on each of those endpoints. So in this simple example each outlet would have a separate endpoint which contains the On/Off and Metering cluster.

Hi,

In you case, you need only one endpoint. You can image different endpoint of device like different network port. Different port uses for different function.
