Implementing Error Correction on CC2530/31 Flash

  I'm guessing you are wanting to implement OAD (Over the Air Download) for code updates, is this correct?  There is an App Note and guide for the CC2430 (same uC and FLASH as CC2530):  http://e2e.ti.com/support/low_power_rf/w/design_notes/how-to-demonstrate-oad-on-cc2430-zigbee.aspx .

OAD is nice, but it is not required for this application. A simply description of our syste is this: we have an access point that talks to several thousand nodes (like a commerical network). It runs Linux and handles the Wi-Fi stack. Now, we plan to add Zigbee to the access point. Normally, we have an programing application for field upgardes; we upgrade the AP firmware iby having the user download the latest version from their own HTTPSserver. We'd like to do the same thing with the Zigbee radio running the CC2531. So the radio connects to the access point via the USB interface. First question:

• Can we upgarde the firmware through USB interface? Currently, we can only do this through the debu port, right?

In terms of security, is there a supported solution endoresed by TI. How would I incorporate this into a TI solution based on the CC2531? Anything you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Hi David,

  The debug port is used for programming.  Note that the debug device uses the USB port to download the programming data, translates it to the 2-wire debug interface: http://www.ti.com/litv/pdf/swra410 , so you could use the Debugger to accomplish the reprogramming. 

  I'm curious about the "thousands of nodes" as to how they are to be upgraded to ZigBee?

Your additional question on Security - the CC253x incorporates an AES Encryption Engine, so yes, you can implement this; there is an App Note as well as code on this page:  http://www.ti.com/general/docs/litabsmultiplefilelist.tsp?literatureNumber=swra209a  .
