Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2530, Z-STACK

My company is currently in the process of Developing a Home Automation Solution using CC2530 .  Do we have to use any Royalty if we use Z-Stacks in our product.

  • Hi,

The ZigBee stack is considered to be IP of the ZigBee Alliance. To use this you just need to be a member of the ZigBee Alliance, which you will anyway need to be to certify you devices. Please visit this link for more information http://www.zigbee.org/Join/HowtoJoin.aspx.

    Regars, TC.

  • If there is no need to certify your product for Zigbee alliance, no royal fee is needed. Otherwise, you need to join as an adopter member at least ($3,500 (USD) for a 12-month period, renewable on the anniversary date of the membership contract. Also subject to a Logo Administration Fee for products passing the ZigBee Certified program of $1,000 for the first product SKU and $500 for each additional SKU.) and pay the certification fee for the labs you choose.

  • Hi,

Let me please first clarify that there are no fees associated to using the TI Z-stack product. When you install the release, you need to accept the end user license agreement which allows you to use the SW in conjunction with TI radios.

I am adding the membership FAQ section from the ZIgBee Alliance website for further clarification on the use of ZigBee technology and ZigBee Alliance membership requirements and benefits.

    http://www.zigbee.org/Join/MembershipFAQ.aspx

TI offers an already certified core stack which can be used as a platform for the design and the production of devices that implement a specific application profile, private or public.

If your company uses a public application profile and you want to certify your device in regards to that public application profile to guarantee your device is inter-operable, then you would have to submit for product certification.

    Thanks,
