Why would MAC ACK work but APS ACK fail in a trivial network?

Hello,

I have one ZNP coordinator and one ZNP router. MAC ACK works but APS ACK fails. In such a simple network (no other devices) why would APS ACK fail but MAC ACK work?

Do you use AF_ACK_REQUEST option when you call AF_DataRequest?

Yes, and confirmed it with a logic analyzer on the SPI bus.

Do you also check the return value of AF_DataRequest? Check if the return value is ZSuccess first.

Hello,

I finally figured it out. There was a mismatch in the security settings between the two devices. One device had security = 0, the other security = 1. That allowed one way communications but not bidirectional communications. It also explained why MAC ACKs would work but APS ACKs failed. I bought a CC2531EMK for the client and once they ran the packet sniffer and sent it to them we saw the problem.
