Problem with ZStack-Lighting Kit example

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2531, CC2531EMK, CC2540

hi everybody, I'm trying to work example: ZigBee Lighting Gateway SW. I flash my cc2531 whit SampleGateway-USB-SBL.bin and run in ubuntu 12.04 server and client examples, the client is listDevsCmdLine but i cant conect any zlight devices on my Zigbee network.

i try whit:

  1. Press the S1 button on the CC2531EMK dongle, the RED LED will flash for 60s during which time devices can associate the the network.
  2. Follow the device specific instructions for other ZigBee devices to make them join the ZigBee network.
    • For Zlights you need to:
    • Hold the button for 3s to reset it to factory new and wait for 5s until the LED's blink (this step can be skipped if the ZLight is already factory new).
    • Hold the button for more than 10s to make it join a network

in my ubuntu server program example i see this:

in the client:

IP addresses for 127.0.0.1:

IPv4: 127.0.0.1
Trying to connect...
Connected.

in the server:

Message from Socket Sever
zllMain: waiting for poll()

thanks

  • Hi

Whether you can use SmartRF Packet sniffer to capture the packet, make sure the ZigBee network have built by CC2531 USB Dongle. Then let the Zlight join the network. If the Zlight can join the network successful, the problem maybe at you Linux side.

  • Greetings,

I have two of the ZStack Lighting Kits and the two USB dongles are behaving differently.  Essentially one works and the other doesn't.

I updated both with the gateway firmware.   On the one that works - the Green LED stays on.  On the one that doesn't work, the Green LED does a short flash for about a minute and then both LEDs are off.

If I press S1 on either dongle. the Red LED starts flashing... but the nothing shows up on a link attempt - using either Ninja or the command line tool.

Is there anything I can do to get the 'bad' dongle to work, or should I just return it?

    Pax.

  • Garry,

Do you see any signs of life from the dongle that is not working? If you have a packet sniffer can you see Link status messages? If you have not already I would try er-programming it to see if it starts working as expected. Also (if you have good eye sight) you could check that you do actually have a CC2531 dongle and not a CC2540 dongle. The BLE/CC2540 dongle looks identical other than the markings on the chip.

    Tony.

  • Hi Tony,

    Thanks for the reply!

Yes, I'm sure it is a CC2531 by markings on the chip.

    I unfortunately don't have a sniffer..

The only difference I can see between the two, besides not being able to link, is the green LED is doing a brief flash when first powered up for about a minute, otherwise it is off.

I've programmed it several times - the software indicates success and the red light momentarily goes on - same pattern on both devices after programming.
