SmartRF06 operation from battery

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: Z-STACK, CC2538

Hi,
I have purchased one of the CC2538DK development kits and am trying to run the sample applications from the Zigbee stack Z-stack home 1.2.0.
I have built and loaded the sample light and sample switch into the two dev boards respectively with sample light set up as co-ordinator and sample switch set up as end device exactly as per the documentation.

When I operate both boards off the USB power with USB cables connected everything behaves as expected - I can get the two pieces of hardware to bind and thus switch the 'light" on and off.

However when I attempt to operate one of both of the boards from two AA batteries although the application appears to function correctly and the correct text appears on the LCD I cannot get the two devices to bind and consequently can't get the light to turn on and off. I am also looking at the RF packets using the sniffer dongle and SmartRF Packet Sniffer and although both boards transmit packets, it seem as if there is a data request coming from the end device more frequently than it does when operated off USB power.

So clearly something is not working as it should but I can't for the life of me figure out why since the board has power regardless and the application is running more or less successfully.

I'm wondering has anyone else experienced this problem and solved it?

Damian.
