Does the CC2531 have to run ZSTACK?

I am considering building a Linux gateway that needs Zigbee connectivity, e.g. using the CC2531. Is running the ZSTACK software a hard requirement to get Zigbee working on the CC2531, or could I use my own stack?

Is ZSTACK fully open source? Can we extend it and get changes merged back in upstream if needed?

Basically, Linux GW runs as ZAP and CC2531 as ZNP. It doesn't have to be CC2531. CC2530 can be run as ZNP too. Z-Stack is not an open source. TI provides Z-Stack library and examples to use it.

OK, so what happens if you decide to use Z-Stack and it doesn't have certain features you need?

Hi,

TI Z-Stack Linux Gateway http://www.ti.com/tool/z-stack is coupled with Z-Stack ZNP running on CC253x. What Gateway feature are you looking for ?

Z-Stack is an implementation of Zigbee spe so it can do anything designed by Zigbee allianc. Can you point out what certain featur you need but not supported by Z-Stack? Maybe I can give you alternatives.
