how to use cc2531 usb dongle

CC2531 usb dongle is usually for sniffer purpose or act as ZNP. I suggest you use SmartRF05EB+CC2530EM to get familiar with Z-Stack example first. After you are familiar with FW, you can try to modify example to work on CC2531.

so , let me ask another way, can i use cc2530 z-stack , without modification on cc2531 usb dongle and configure it as either end device or router ??

my intention is to form a zigbee network , in which smartrf acts as a ZC and these cc2531 usb dongles as end devices

As I know, there is no example that can config CC2531 USB dongle to end device or router.

The GenericApp sample application in the Z-Stack Mesh 1.0.0 release has support for ZigBee devices on CC2531.

so, what is the device i should buy from TI, which acts as a zigbee end device or router and form a network with smartrf05 as a ZC. i dont want to by hundreds of smartrf05 for this purpose.. i want simple standalone cc2530 based board which i can configure as end device or router. 

TI CC2530DK is for evaluation purpose. If you want to test lots of ZIGBEE node, you can buy it from 3rd party such as http://www.alibaba.com/showroom/zigbee-development-board-cc2530-smartrf.html
