Questions regarding TI Zigbee portfolio

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2538, CC3200, CC2538-CC2592EMK, CC2538EMK, CC2592, Z-STACK

Hello everyone,

We are working on wireless sensor network for industry and building. We are using CC3200 and MSP430 from TI. Now we need to setup wireless network based on zigbee. Network contains one coordinator and several nodes. Node never communicate with each other, they only communicate with coordinator hence we need good long distance communication. We are planning to use CC2538. We have some question regarding TI zigbee portfolio which I'm posting here. Expecting answer from TI employee.

1. What is the difference between CC2538 CC2538 Evaluation Module Kit (CC2538EMK) and CC2538-CC2592 Evaluation Module Kit (CC2538-CC2592EMK)?

2. What is the maximum indoor communication range can be achieved using CC2538?

3. If we want 200m indoor range between coordinator and node, can it be achieved using CC2538?

4. How does CC2538 Over the air update work?

5. Recommendation from your side

  • 1. The difference between CC2538EMK and CC2538-CC2592EMK is the later one contains PA/LNA, which is CC2592. So, CC2538-CC2592EMK will have better communication distance.

    2. It depends on what material of wall and if there is other Obstacle in between.

    3. As I know, it is impossible.

    4. If you use Z-Stack Home, it follows Zigbee OTA cluster.
