CC2538 current consumption for transmitter at 0 dBm

I tried on our CC2538EM and it shows around 24mA at 0 dBm. That means there might be something on your board which draws more current.

Check if you set pins that doesn't use to GPI.

What will measuring the current in standby and receive modes tell me?   I have 4 LEDs, I2C, UART and 2 outputs.  However all of these items are inactive.  On your Eval board did you have the clocks shut off on the I2C and UART when you made your measurement of 24 mA?

I want to see, if this excess current drain is in only Tx mode or in other modes also.
I suspect that one of the high drive capable GPIOs (PCO~PC3 are capable of sourcing 20mA) might be the cause for this excess current drain. Please check the status of these lines.

PC0-PC3 .... this might be helpful. I have some more questions. I use PC0 in series with a 1.5 K resistor to pull-up the USB-P signal as per the TI reference design. However I don't have any USB devices connected. This signal is inactive. PC1 is unassigned (I assumed it defaults to an input). PC2 and PC3 go to a bases of FET transistors (high input impedance). Usually this output is a logic low. Sometimes I introduce a 50 ms pulse. So my question is as follows, would I get up to 20 mA when the outputs at constant level or would 20 mA happen only when I transition from one state to another?

For a quick check, you can deactivate PC2 and PC3 and measure the current.
These GPIOs are capable of driving 20mA load. If the load presented on these lines have low impedance then they will source 20mA.

I deactivated PC2 and PC3 and I still get 40 mA. I am not allowed to post my schematic. I will have to contact the person who designed the board that I am working on. Thanks for your help.

Could you please measure Standby and Rx current also in the same condition?

I want to see the problem exists in all the modes or is it only in Tx mode.

What do I need to do to get the MAC in Standby and Rx modes?

I don't know about it. But Can you use SmartRFStudio to get these measurements?

It looks like it's going to take a while for me to get going with SmartRFStudio. I can access the board via an emulator, and access to MAC registers. I looked at the USER manual, but I could not find anything on RX and standby. Do you know which register I have to access to set the MAC radio to standby and Rx modes?
