Significant price increase of CC2538DK

Does anyone know why the price suddenly increased for the CC2538DK from $299 end of last year, to $499 now? This seems a bit extreme and I wonder if anything changed in the contents, design, etc. that would warrant this.

unfortunately this is the new price for the kit. If you already have a SmartRF06, a cheaper variant is http://www.ti.com/tool/cc2538emk.
