6Lowpan and Zigbee on same board

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2520, CC2530

Hi

we want to design an RF gateway used to collect Zigbee and 6lowpan frames in parallel and in simultaneous way from diffrent devices technology (Zigbee, 6lowpan).

we have to work on the 2.4GHz band for both protocols. we re trying to find the best solution hw / sw to reply to this need.

1- One RF interface CC2520  + 2 MSP430 (MSP1 for Zigbee; MSP2 for 6lowpan), then frames will be routed to the main MCU via SPI

==> complexity on sw routing and filtering frames ?!

2- Two separeted modules ( with 2antenna) :  CC2530 (Zigbee)  and another  CC2530 (6LoWPAN)

==> due to the same band, can we get interference problems in this situation ?!

any remarks ? is there any other suggestion ?

thanks

  • Hi AFM,

    1. If you plan is to make CC2520 parse an incoming packet and issue an interrupt to one of the two MSP430s based on the identified packet type so that the proper MSP430 retrieves the packet using SPI, unfortunately it is not feasible because CC2520 cannot differentiate one from the other.

    2. This is doable because each CC2530 can sit on a different channel out of the 15 channels of IEEE 802.15.4. Even if both are on the same channel, they can avoid collisions using CSMA/CA.
