Hi,

I am trying to setup 6LoWPAN network using CC2650 sensortag and CC2531 USB dongle as SLIP radio.

Following wiki http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Cc26xx_sw_examples I flashed the CC2531 USB dongle with cc2531-slip-radio_contikimac.zip

Afer that when I plug in the dongle into USB port of my PC nothing happens on it, no LEDs activity, nothing on terminal (115200, N, 8,1)

Is this an expected behaviour?

I repeated it for 2 dongles with the same result.

After building and flashing 2 sensortags with cc26xx-demo nothing happens as well, when I try to run it.

I still have no BBB connected, stacked with no communication between SLIP radio and nodes.

If anyone has done it, please give me a kick.

Hi,

Still unable to run any out of the box applications on cc2560 sensortag.

According to wiki http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Cc26xx_contiki_sw_apps :

Network UART (net-uart)

This example only makes sense if you are using the Srf or if you have taken the sensortag out of its case and you have it connected over JTAG to the Srf.

I have connected SmartRF06 with sensortag using JTAG. I am able to flash sensortag using FlashProgrammer 2

The schematics for SmartRF06 and sensortag doesn't show any UART signals, however, which are mentioned in above wiki.

What am I missing?

Hi Jan,

Sorry about the late reply.

You are not supposed to plug the CC2531USB Dongle into your PC, but into the BBB. That said you are able to use the USB dongle with a PC also.

For Linux/mac there are no drivers needed as the dongle will connect as a standard CDC-ACM device.

1. Connect the dongle to the BBB.

You should see the two LEDs fade on/off in order. The dongle should appear as `/dev/ttyACM0`.

Typing `dmesg` should show respective entries:

Hi Jonas,

I have the system running and yes, the CC2531 USB dongle programmed as SLIP radio is plugged into BBB.

It runs only on my home network, but not on university network and all my initial problems were related to that.

However still there is a questions as in my second post:

Jan,
The UART is actually the backchannel of the debugger. SO once you connect the SRF06EB to your PC you will get a serial port. The CC2650Em is connected to that UART. It shall work out of the box. For the SensorTag, the current (2015-04-10) software on Github uses two spare JTAG signals to connect to the said UART on the srf. So by jumping the UART signal as described on the wiki you are ble to get the tags serialport via the SmartRF06EB also. Once the DevPack debugger is released uart will be avaialbe in a similar manner directly on tha debug platform.

The uart is enalbed by default. Meaing, if you flash a sfr06eb-cc26xxEM with the Contiki software, you should see debug info on the console.

From software pritnf() is configured to send data to serial port. All examples uses this: (github.com/.../cc26xx-demo.c)

Hi, I'm using SensorTag + RF06EM and trying to get the serialport output from the tag. You say "software on Github uses two spare JTAG signals to connect to the said UART on the srf. So by jumping the UART signal as described on the wiki you are ble to get the tags serialport via the SmartRF06EB", but the only thing I can find in the wiki is: "If using the senortag you need to connect the the UART signals on srf06eb to use two unused JTAG signal, please see the Tips and tricks section below.". But this tips&tricks section is missing... Am I missing something obvious here?

No you are not missing something, the Tips and Tricks section is removed form the wiki... Will get fixed.

In the meantime, to connect the UART on the CC2650 SensorTag to the backchannel UART on the SmartRF06EB:

P408:

Connect pin 6 to pin 11

connect pin 8 to pin 13

Leave all other pins connected as normal (straight over). pin 1 is marked with a circle.

Hope it makes sense! There are updates coming to the way UART on the tag is going to be used with development boards.

Thanks very much Jonas, it makes sense. As I was getting ready to try this approach I got my hands on the Debugger DevPack. It seems like a cool addition - I was able to flash the SensorTag via it, but my hunt for the serial output is still without success. Have you tried it? From the documentations it seems it should be basically plug and play, but I am getting no output. In Windows I see the USB come up as two COM ports (Application/User UART, and Auxiliary Data Port) - as I mentioned I am also able to reach the node via the Flash Programmer. But I am getting no output when listening to these ports with 115200/8/N/1. Tried mainly with the cc26xx-demo (I see frames being TXed so I know the SW is running). Any tips? I get same silence when trying in linux... Also tried installing drivers from Code Composer but same result.

Hello,

Yes this is been used/verifed a lot during development. The drivers seems to be installed ok, since you get the COM port in windows. (These are included in the SmartRF Studio installation). Did my explanation regarding how you need to strap the P408 pin row make sense? The hack here is that the Contiki port running on the sensortag are suing two unused JTAG signals for UART RX/TX instead.

Please make sure you are using these pins: (/contikk/platform/srf06.cc26xx/sensortag/board.h)

I am sorry Jonas, I see my previous post was confusing. I was trying to say I could not get the serial via the Debugger DevPack to work. I tried with the drivers found in the SmartRF studio folder (In Windows I see Driver version 1.6.0.0, date 25.11.2014.) as well, with no luck. Any hints?

I am following your hack on the Srf06 board, and making sure that these pins are used. However, the latest version of the board.h doesnt contain those two definitions anymore. Can i have your advice on how to see the serial comms for sensortag? Here's the latest code:

I've installed SDCC
but I'm getting errors during compilation.
Can you try and let me know if you have the same problem?

I never use SDCC to build Contiki slip radio successfully and I don't think your problem is related to slip radio SW. I suggest you to use CC2650 because I think there is something wrong with your CC2531 USB dongle.

If I remember correctly, InstantContiki 2.7 has SDCC installed. You can download it from sourceforge.net/.../ and try to use it to build slip radio for CC2531EMK.

If you have instant contiki.! Can you check once if you are able to build?! I guess slip radio source file is in examples/ipv6/slip-radio
and I must run "make TARGET=cc2530dk" from that directory
right?

Download InstantContiki2.7 again but don't run "apt-get install sdcc" this time. Do to examples/cc2530dk folder and do make directly.

Build examples/ipv6/slip-radio with make TARGET=cc2530dk would fail. To build CC2531 slip radio, you have to use github.com/.../cc2531-slip-radio . However, I can build successfully but the hex doesn't work on my CC2531EMK.

Its worked fine initially. But 2nd time it works for like some 50 sec max then slip radio fails to ack.

Hey, sorry.
Its working perfectly fine. my firewall was blocking coap port.
when i disable it works fine.
May be the F/W for cc2531EMK is diff if it is not working in your dongle.
I dont know. might be the case.

I wonder why its not building in my case.
I look into that issue.
