Hi Team,

I am working with a customer on the CC2530 in a very low power application. The device is in sleep mode most of the time and only wakes up for a small time window every hour. Based on this, any power savings in sleep mode is critical for extending the battery life.

I looked through the forums and found some discussions but no hard figures on how much power savings the RC oscillator gives for the sleep timer.

Do you have any data to share on how much power savings are gained by using the 32KHz RC oscillator over a crystal?

The goal is to get an estimate of how much longer we can run the device off of a battery with this configuration.

Hi Matt,

I don't know which power mode they are using.

As they are sleeping longer time, they can use PM3 mode, which has the lowest power consumption than all the other (PM1 & PM2) modes.

In PM3, all oscillators are turned off including 32KHz RC Osc.

Which Power save Mode they want to use?

I have confirmed with the customer that they are using PM2.
Based on this, do you have any data on how much power is saved using the RC oscillator over a crystal?

Hi Matt,

According to the data sheet, the difference in the current consumption with RC Osc and with X'tal Osc is around 1uA at 3V.

But we will test it and let you know the result. It may take couple of days.
