Zigbee PRO Max Children

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SIMPLICITI, TIMAC, Z-STACK, CC2530

Hi,

If I understand correctly, the zigbee 2007 spec limits the MAX_CHILDREN to 32 (http://e2e.ti.com/support/low_power_rf/f/158/p/17257/66823.aspx#66823)

But, nothing has been said about this limit in Zigbee PRO either here or in the documentation. So, Can I have more than 32 nodes per router in Zigbee PRO? I am looking to have around 200 nodes in a star topology.

Thanks,

SF

  • First, ZigBee 2007 spec covers both Pro and non-Pro. non-Pro uses the Cskip addressing as mentioned in the link you posted. While Pro uses stochastic ("random") addressing, each parent router is still limited to having 32 children. If a star topology is all you need, I would not recommend that you use ZigBee. Use something like SimpliciTI or TIMAC.

  • Hi Double O,

Thanks a lot for your reply!

Can you please tell me the limits of number of nodes in a star topology in SimpliciTI and TIMAC, and which one would you recommend for the implementation?

Also, is it possible for me to change the Z-Stack implementation of Zigbee PRO to support more than 32 nodes per router?

    Thanks,

  • Hi,

I have a minor question. If NWK_MAX_DEVICE_LIST can be set to a maximum of 32, what is the maximum value i can use for MAX_ROUTERS (for Zigbee PRO)? Can it be set to a value as high as 31?

    Please help.

    Thanks,

    SF

  • Hello Double 0,

I am interested in using zigbee for a similar topology. Your reply makes it sound like it is impossible to have more than 31 children communicating with any one coordinator or router.  Is this a limitation of the zigbee standard, or just TI's implementation of it? Can I expect to find this limit for all zigbee devices from all manufacturers?

    Thanks.

  • Same question ! It's a really limitant parameter. I want to use several hundreds of end devices but I want to know if there is a way to do this rather than adding more routers ...
