Optional 32 kHz crystal at CC2538

The schematics of CC2538EM says the 32 kHz is optional. What functions would I lose if I don't use the 32 kHz crystal on the PCB?

    It depends on your application. If you need accurate timing when going in and out of sleep, it is required.
    For asynchronous protocols like ZigBee you can use the internal 32 Khz RC Osc to source clock the sleep timer.
