Internet-to-gateway communication between cloud server and Contiki OS driven gateway.

Hi

I have a cloud server and a border-router / gateway (running Contiki OS). Both the cloud server and the border-router are having an IPv4 address.
How do I accomplish internet-to-gateway communication in terms of protocols?
During my research, I have encountered web-sockets, but I'm not really sure that is possible in Contiki OS.
I have sketched the simple case underneath.
