Hi all,

I am doing a zigbee project.

I need to understand the group binding mechanism.How could i implement it.

The details of how group binding works is not much available over web.So please suggest some theoretical details about it.

What do you mean group binding? I never heard of this. Can you elaborate?

Hi Y.Chen,

I am talking of group casting . A single switch will be capable of controlling number of(say 10) bulbs with same group id.
How could i implement this on client and server side.

You can use API zclGeneral_SendGroupAdd to assign a device to a specific group.

Hi Y.Chen,

So do i need to give this zclGeneral_SendGroupAdd() in both server and client.Where shall i give this.
And also what will be the binding mode i.e through broadcast(using match descriptor) or through AddrGroup.

For example, you can call zclGeneral_SendGroupAdd from ZC using unicast to assign a ZR or ZED to a specific group.

hi Y.chen,

so how can i give group names to my ZED

I need such that 1 switch should be able to control 3 bulbs of same group,
another switch to control bulbs of another group.

i am using auto binding feature and i am confused in how to assign group names
Can i send zclGeneral_SendGroupAdd in ZED as i need ZED to communicate ZC should not participate in anything

The 4th parameter of zclGeneral_SendGroupAdd is groupName which you can specify. You can send zclGeneral_SendGroupAdd to 3 bulbs one by one to assign them to the same group and send On/Off command from switch using group addressing. When we use group addressing, we only use group ID and group name is useless.

Binding and Group casting are two different addressing mode. If you want to use group casting, you don't have to do binding.

I made ZC to send zclGeneral_SendGroupAdd() when i press a switch.
but how to know that Zed is getting that request is there any call back where i can put breakpoint and check

i am pasting my code here

is it the coorect way of giving destination address and group id in group casting application?

No, you should use unicast when you call zclGeneral_SendGroupAdd.

Unicast means to use address mode Addr16Bit.

As you are suggesting to use uni cast addressing but how could i get the address of the desired destination device.
I meant to say that what short address i will be using then?
I was previously using like below.

When a device joins Zigbee network, it would broadcast end node announcement which contains device's short addres. You can receive it and keep short address of joined device in your application and use it later.

Hi Y.Chen,

I am using "device_annce" for getting the end device details when it joins the network.I am getting same nwkaddr(=0x8000) for all the devices.

Also the nwk address it is showing is not the actual address of my device.I have pasted below the device_annce_msg which i am getting.

So please tell me that why the address(nwk) my device is displaying and the nwkaddr(=0x8000) i am getting is not same.

You should add "if(pMsg->clusterID == Device_annce) {ZDO_DeviceAnnce_t devAnnce; ZDO_ParseDeviceAnnce(inMsg, &devAnnce);}" in your zclXXX_ProcessZDOMsgs.

Can i fix the the group id of the end device from the application level.Presently we are sending the group id from ZC through unicast messages.

I am thinking to do in a way that i will fix the group id of each device from application level.So our coordinator will not be required to send unicast messages to them for adding them to group.And then our controller device could send the messages to those groups id directly.

It's defined in aps_groups.h like the followings:

extern ZStatus_t aps_AddGroup( uint8 endpoint, aps_Group_t *group );

You can also read section 3.3.3.2.1 aps_AddGroup in Z-Stack API.pdf.
