Hello,

I want to understand how does device join the network when there are multiple networks and permit join is done only on one network.

1) Which network is given priority first?

2) How many times does the new device keep's joining the same network?

3) What are the total attempts of the new device for joining the network, when does it give up and stop finding the network?

1. When device sends beacon request, the first one that responses it with permit join enable would be priority first.
2. Don't get your question well. Can you elaborate?
3. By defalut, a device won't give up until it joins a Zigbee network.

Dear Yikai,

If there are multiple network like Network1 , Network 2 and Network 3. And Permit Join is done on Network 3.

Now assume that new device is trying to join the network and now all network are responding to new device. So now new Device first tries to associate with Network 1 and now as there is no permit join on the network the device will be removed and it will try new network or same network again.

1) Now How many times does the new device joins the same network until it finds the appropriate network?

2) Also what happens if Network 2 is the one that is responding first to the beacon of New Device? And Network 3 happens to respond little later after Network 2, will the device ever join Network 3? If yes how much time will it take?

If Permit Join is only enable on Network 3, device would only try to associate to Network 3 and won't try to associate to Network 1 and 2.

Dear Yikai,

I have attached a Sniffer Log which shows that a ZR with IEEE address 00:12:4b:00:04:a8:04:31 (Device 1) associates to ZR with IEEE address 00:12:4b:00:03:e9:b0:53 (Device 2) which is already in one network and there is no permit join on this network.

But I have done permit join on another network who's ZNP IEEE Address is 00:12:4b:00:08:b8:ae:14, so instead of joining this network Device 1 keeps associating to Device 2. What could be the reason for this?

Since ZR with IEEE address 00:12:4b:00:04:a8:04:31 (Device 1) associates to ZR with IEEE address 00:12:4b:00:03:e9:b0:53 (Device 2), what do you expect to enable permit join on another Zigbee network?

No Sir. I wand Device 1 to join other Network i.e. the one with IEEE Address 00:12:4b:00:08:b8:ae:14.

Then, you have to do factory reset to your Device 1 and make it to send beacon request again to join new Zigbee network.

How do I do Factory Reset?

Because I have already removed it from the old network by using the code that you have given me in

It's correct way to do factory reset to device. I see that ZC is not enable permit join when you want the device to join.

No Sir It Associates to the strongest network (Network having maximum number of devices), whereas if I get the ZC closer to the ZR it does join that network also.

I see ZR (0xb754) are enable permit join but ZC in the same network is disable permit join. So, it join this network but is unauthenticated by ZC and be removed. You should disable the ZR's permit join to avoid this.

Send ZDP_MgmtPermitJoinReq with ZR's short address and duration as 0.

If you disable permit join from GW, it should broadcast similar command to disable permit join on all ZRs in the same network.

Dear Yikai,

I did testing using Z-Stack Linux Gateway, here I Broadcasted Permit Join wit Duration 0.

And then I tried adding New Device to other Network, But the new Device still associates to the Device who's Permit Join is 0.

I have attached Sniffer Log and Screenshot for further clarification.

Yes, I see ZR(0x12e6) broadcast permit join with duration=0 which means it receives permit join with duration=0 too. I have no idea why it still shows association permit: true in its beacon frame. Which Z-Stack example do you use as ZR?

Try to add "NLME_PermitJoiningRequest(0x00);" in the end of zclSampleLight_Init() and test again.

I think that will work, because I tested it using one device.

But as I have many number of device I will have to flash each and everyone of those and test it again.

Dear Yikai,

There is a problem, If I use NLME_PermitJoiningRequest(0x00) in Samplelight Init, Devices are unable to join through mesh but if I comment the same code device does join through mesh.

I have attached 2 sniffer logs 1) With NLME_PermitJoiningRequest(0x00) and 2) Without NLME_PermitJoiningRequest(0x00)

Here you can see that 0xdf70 has Association Permit: True in one sniffer log (Packet No 29) and Association Permit: False in other sniffer log (Packet No 56).

In association false after Permit join log, I see ZC broadcast permit join with duration=60 but ZR (0xdf70) and ZR(0x3d93) in the same network doesn't broadcast permit join with duration=60 accordingly. I suspect they don't receive permit join request from ZC. I suggest you to set a breakpoint in ZDO_ProcessMgmtPermitJoinReq of ZR to check if ZR receive permit join request from ZC.
