Zigbee routers not getting added in the network

Hello

I am working with Z-Stack Home 1.2.1, I have 15 - 20 total zigbee routers (CC2530), and beaglebone black with CC2531 dongle as coordinator.

My problem is I cannot add more than 9 routers in my network.

I have previously observed this problem with maximum 6 routers. And also with maximum 11 routers.

Please help me with following queries:

1) What is the parameter in Coordinator that decides maximum number of routers that can be joined in the network?

2) I have always used the precompiled binary for CC2531 dongle provided with Linux gateway 1.0.1.. If I want to change that parameter in coordinator code, what steps should I follow

3) As far as I have observed, the maximum number of routers is not always same, I have to add and check how many routers can be added. Why is this so?

I see two parameters
NWK_MAX_DEVICE_LIST
and
NWK_MAX_ROUTERS in nwk_globals.h in ZNP code.
What is the difference?

1. It's NWK_MAX_DEVICE_LIST that defines maximum number of end devices/routers that can be joined to a coordinator or router. NWK_MAX_ROUTERS define is not used anymore in Z-Stack kernel.
2. You can modify CC2530-ProdHex project and rebuild it with ENABLE_MT_SYS_RESET_SHUTDOWN added to compile options. You can refer to sunmaysky.blogspot.com/.../Z-Stack Linux Home Gateway
3. If you add and remove devices/routers again and again when doing test, the device might not be removed properly from association list and causes this issue. You can do a factory reset to your GW/ZNP and test again.

Ok, thanks for the reply.
I checked NWK_MAX_DEVICE_LIST , which is by default 20.
But never even reach beyond 11. Why is this so?

Also, in oyur blog post you have mentioned for cc2530 dk, but I am using CC2531 USB dongle. Could you suggest steps for CC2531 usb dongle?

1. If device keeps added to GW and without remove properly, it would occupy a space in association list forever. That why I replied "If you add and remove devices/routers again and again when doing test, the device might not be removed properly from association list and causes this issue. You can do a factory reset to your GW/ZNP and test again." before.
2. The steps are similar as I replied. Just remember to add ENABLE_MT_SYS_RESET_SHUTDOWN to compile options and change what you want to revise. Then, rebuild to get ZNP images.

I am using Z-Stack Home 1.2.1, which is an old version, are you sure NWK_MAX_ROUTERS define is not used anymore for this version too?

Before your answer, I tried modifying NWK_MAX_ROUTERS to 20, and now I cant add a single router to my network

I would suggest you to use Ubiqua Packet Analyzer to check it.

I am able to join a few routers now, but some of the modules which were getting joined before, are not able to join the network now,

The sniffer logs has a lot of beacons and beacon requests. Here is the sniffer log:

Your answer:

suggests that I cannot do anything to change this behaviour, is that so, I cannot afford such behaviour keeping in mind I have to develop a stable product.

I request you to consider this problem again and please suggest what steps I should follow, so that I can add 20 routers or more in the network?

The permit join is disable on your coordinator in the sniffer log and that's why device cannot join. To remove a device from association list, you have to send leave request to device and get the response from it.

Sorry for replying so late, I was on a leave.
1) You suggested that permit join is disabled. But actually when I press 'p' on Linux gateway terminal app, The permit join is open for only 60s. So within 60 seconds it should be enabled, after which it will be disabled.
2) Leave request is different than remove device, that is what I have learnt from my previous posts. We are using linux gateway, therefore it sends "Remove Device" packet from coordinator to remove a device from network. please refer to your answers in my previous post:

This is all the explanation I have for your observations. If anything else is still missing, kindly help me out in finding that problem.

No, after 9 routers, no more routers join, doesn't matter how many times I send permit join.
If I remove one of them, only then any of the other device is able to join.
And as I told you before NWK_MAX_DEVICE_LIST is 20

I have no idea why your device doesn't send association request if you enable permit join on coordinator. I suggest you to trace and debug it on device's side.
