Mesh Network with GenericApp: Binding is necessary?

Hi everyone,

I'm creating the mesh network for collecting data from portable ZED, ZED will send data to ZC every 5mins or receive request from ZC. I found the z-stack Mesh supports for hundreds nodes. Can you help me clear some questions as below:

1) When using GenericApp, ZC-ZR-ZED will form network automatically?

2) If nodes are not bound, ZC can send data to ZED and vice versa?

3) When ZED is out of range ZR, it will join potential ZR?

4) I'm intend using USB dongle CC2531 as ZC with ZNP FW, Is it OK?

1. ZC should form Zigbee network first. After ZC enable permit join, ZR and ZED can join network automatically.
2. What do you mean bound?
3. If that ZR is in the same Zigbee network, ZED would join it.
4. Yes, it is OK.

Thank for your answer,

1) About Enable permit join, it means i'll call NLME_PermitJoiningRequest(0xFF) in GenericApp_Init (GenericApp.c) for ZC only?
2) In GenericApp_HandleKeys function, when trigger SW2 it will "Initiate an End Device Bind Request for the mandatory endpoint" and "Initiate a Match Description Request" for SW4. Is it necessary for my network?

1. Yes, you can use NLME_PermitJoiningRequest(0xFF) in GenericApp_Init to enable permit join on ZC.
2. Binding or matching request are used for setting message delivery destination. If you know the destination address, you don't need them.

One more question, I want ZED is only allowed to connect to ZR. How to config ZC so that it rejects ZED when it join into network.

You can try to enable permit join on ZR only and the device could join it but not ZC.

Can you show me more details? And in that case, ZR can join ZC normally?

You have to enable permit join on ZC first and make ZR to join ZC. Next, disable permit join on ZC and enable permit join on ZR only. The, ZED should only join ZR not ZC.

One more question, my application in PC will collect data from all ZED through ZC. So I want to use the unique address for my app. But when 1 ZED rejoin to network it will be provided new address, right? Which approach to solve this issue, I intend to use MAC address of ZED, is it OK?

If you enable NV_RESTORE, the short address shouldn't change.

Okie, I got it.

I'm calling NLME_GetShortAddr in case GenericApp_ProcessEvent -> ZDO_STATE_CHANGE of ZED and send to ZC. How's about it?

If you intend to send messages from ZED to ZC, the short address of ZC is always 0x0000.

When ZED and ZC are not binding, ZED sent message to ZC but ZC is not received ( I checked in AF_INCOMING_MSG_CMD )
Can you tell me why ZC can not receive message from ZED?

I've checked by sniffer packet data. Actually ZED only sent Beacon request and dont join network of ZC. I'm using GenericApp of z-stack mesh.

There is no coordinator responses to beacon requests from your end device in the sniffer log. Do you setup coordinator that runs on the same channel to your end device.

I set up the channel for ZC and ZED as default of GenericApp
-DDEFAULT_CHANLIST=0x00000800

If you still have problem, I suggest you to reinstall original GenericApp to test again.

I had tested GenericApp many times and pretty sure it works fine. By the way, what's your HW to test GenericApp? Is it CC2530DK?

I'm using my HW with GB2530 module as the following.
www.gban.cn/.../product_show.asp

When ZED is binded to ZC, It's OK (send message together). But without binding, ZED is not joined to ZC.

Binding is for setting destination address of delivering message so it is nothing to do with ZED joining ZC. Try to remove HOLD_AUTO_START from compile options in ZC and ZED to test again.

After checking your module spec, I see it uses PA/LNA on it. You can try to add HAL_PA_LNA to compile options of ZC and ZED to test again.

Another issue, ZED sends message to ZC, in ZDApp_ProcessOSALMsg catches event AF_INCOMING_MSG_CMD but not send to GenericApp_ProcessEvent. I think the condition events & SYS_EVENT_MSG is not true in case of ZED not binding to ZC.
Can you tell me how to catch this event?

Are you sure ZDApp_ProcessOSALMsg of ZC catches AF_INCOMING_MSG_CMD? If yes, I see no reason why it doesn't pass it to GenericApp_ProcessEvent. I suggest you to use Ubiqua Packet Analyzer to check it.

I used as below

Even the message has been sent but never jump to FarmMan_ProcessEvent (AF_INCOMING_MSG_CMD) .Can you check the log?

According to Z-Stack Sample Applications:
The GenericApp Application Object is instantiated by the above code. This allows the AF layer to know how to route incoming packets destined for the profile/endpoint – it will do so by sending an OSAL SYS_EVENT_MSG-message (AF_INCOMING_MSG_CMD) to the task (task ID).

I think that only sending packet of binding ZED, AF of ZC send SYS_EVENT_MSG. Is it right?

I see "Hello world" message is sent from ZED to ZC in your Ubiqua log. If you are sure ZDApp_ProcessOSALMsg catches event AF_INCOMING_MSG_CMD, you have to debug why it does not send to GenericApp_ProcessEvent

I see that the osal_msg_send in ZDO_SendMsgCBs is not called.

Reason the below red condition is not satisfied

Yes, It's correct. But It hit ZDApp_ProcessOSALMsg -> ZDP_IncomingData -> ZDO_SendMsgCBs but it doesn't call osal_msg_send.

If you don't trace code into ZDApp.c and only set a single breakpoint at GenericApp_MessageMSGCB in ZC, does it hit when "Hello World" message is sent form ZED to ZC?

Yes, It' correct. I think ZC don't know CluterID of ZED, so It wont transmit to GenericApp even ZC received this message

It's always 19. But pList->clusterID is not stable.
