CC26xx or CC13xx for 80 m RF range application?

Hi,

I have an outdoor application (can be used indoor as well) that should have max. 80m range. I designed a HW based on CC26xx module, but my modules' RF performance is not reliable after 15m.

I did test with CC2650EM + SmartRF. In general it seems it operates fine. Although, PER is not stable. I know channel parameters change, but I couldn't judge if C26xx is good for 80m range application or would you recommend to use cc13xx instead?

I am in more favor of CC26xx since all my hardware and edge router etc. are designed for 2.45 GHz and ready to operate.

Could you please share your CC26xx range experience?

If you use CC2650DK, it should be no problem to have 80 meters in line-of-sight transmission. Since you design your own PCB and it's very small, the ground pad is not large enough and would impact RF performance very much. I suggest you to increase ground pad to test again to see if there is any improvement in line-of-sight transmission.

Is the ground plane still matters if I use an external antenna through a u.fl connector (no pcb or chip antenna)?
