CC2538: CC2538 PA settings -5 dBm - +5 dBm

Part Number: CC2538

Hi,

my customer has inquired for TXPOWER register settings to implement output power of -5 dBm to +5 dBm in 1 dBm resolution. In SmartRF Studio, we offer only 2 dBm steps.
Background is to implement a temperature compensation of the output power.

Best regards,
Phil

  • Hi,

The minimum Resolution available in CC2538 is 2dB.

    Thanks,

  • Hi,

is there some kind of method that customer could use to figure out intermediate values themselves?

    Best regards,
    Phil
  • Hi,   I am the asking customer.  Thank you  for participation.

I tried to find intermediate steps of Tx Power with a modify of the PA_BIAS (4bit) value and evaluating in continuous wave (CW)  test mode.

This works - but i dont know what the PA is doing if the modulated signal is amplified (distortion, out/in-of-Band emissions, ..)

    Are there any experiences ?

  • Hi,

    How many boards you tested?

The codes (Tx power) you found might not be consistent and repeatable from board to board.

If you are happy with the performance with your new codes then you can use it but test more boards for repeatability before you implement in production.

You will get the same Tx power with Modulated or unmodulated signals.

If the codes (consistent and repeatable) are available, we might have characterized at all the power levels.

Could you please post your PA Table ( Code VS Tx Power)?

    Thanks,

    PM
