Linux/CC2530: Development and integration with embedded linux development board

Hello people

We are in need of a development kit which can help us in this project to develop a embedded linux board which can communicate with a zigbee module through UART(or I2C/SPI) to send zigbee commands to other zigbee end devices. We need linux gateway source code/application/driver and its reference design and reference designs of other zigbee end devices. The linux development board right now has only USB port but eventually we will be communicating with serial interface. Does the CC2530 kit have USB zigbee controller which can be programmed as a zigbee coordinator also if we can also program it with our development board. Please provide me with a solution to develop such a environment. Thank you.

Yes, you can use UART of CC2530 to communicate with Z-Stack Linux GW. You can refer to sunmaysky.blogspot.tw/.../how-to-run-ti-z-stack-linux-home.html

Thank you for your response. This looks good. I have few more doubts. Hope you can clear them.

I had looked into the links and source of linux gateway. I need to know if the gateway source is specifically for Beaglebone board or could I take the source and compile it on our embedded linux development board which does not use TI based processor. Also what kind of gateway application is provided with it because I need to control and send Zigbee commands from the embedded linux platform and for eg a smartphone connected to the embedded linux board through wifi.

I want to understand the development. CC2530EM Evaluation Module are programmed using SmartRF05EB Evaluation Board with the SDK provided with the kit and CC2530EM Evaluation Module can be directly directly to the embedded linux board for communication with the zigbee linux gateway.

Can you suggest what all other components or softwares is needed apart from the CC2530DK development kit for the development of a zigbee gateway hub on a embedded linux board.

You can use the source code and build binary for any embedded Linux system and there is no limitations on what Host MCU you use. You can also use CC2531EMK or CC2538DK for developing a Zigbee GW and I think CC2531EMK would be the suitable one.

Hello Yikai,

I was considering CC2538DK. But after some more searching on the site. I found other Zigbee chips like CC2630, CC2590, CC2650 etc. which must be newer and those too have their own development kits. So now I am confused again. Are these better than CC2538 and does these have the same kind of linux support and have more application reference designs than CC2538?

CC26xx has limited flash size and I don't recommended to use it personally.
