CC2531USB-RD: Looking for easy to use, reliable and fast ota server setup

Part Number: CC2531USB-RD
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2531, Z-STACK

Hi,

It is about the usage of CC2531 USB Evaluation Module for OTA update of end devices. If there are end devices which are based on older version. If I do not want to update them through cloud services and lets assume I have new OTA FW update file. I am looking for some setup which is easier to use and quick to update FW. It looks like CC2531 USB Evaluation Module along with OTA console application could be an option to use as a OTA server. through I am not clear on the following points

1- It seems like SmartRF05EB is required to configure this dongle as OTA server, is it also possible to load the OTA server application using ember ISA3 debug adaptor?

2- Is there any size limit on OTA file?, if yes, what the maximum size of OTA file, this server application can do OTA towards its clients?

3- is it possible to connect any zigbee (ZHA or ZLL) device to this OTA server application?

4- how many maximum devices can be connected with a single OTA server USB dongle for OTA session.

Please also share if there are any other setups which can also be an option to use for such purposes

Cheers

  • 1. I don't think you can use Ember ISA3 to work with TI OTA server.

    2. The OTA image size usually is less than 256KB and I think the limits is much larger than this.

    3. It's OK to connect ZHA device to this OTA server. ZLL might work but I don't test it by myself.

    4. According to default setting in Z-Stack, it would be 20.
