cc2530: Endevice not joining to coordinator

Hi,

I am using two IMX6 based custom board with CC2530 one as coordinator & other as enddevice. I am using zstack for home automation profile with ZNP configuration in coordinator & sample light endevice configuration for enddevice. I send the permit join request from TI Demo app and the packets are sending fine as seen from the screenshot but my enddevice is not getting joined to the coordinator. What may be the possible issue?

Also from the screen shot we can see that the Destination Address & Destination PANID of beacon are 0xFFFF is it the correct value? If so then how can we identify the source of beacon request?

I see your coordinator enable permit joins and there is end device capacity in beacon frame of your sniffer log. It's strange that your end device doesn't start association. Can you try to erase the flash on end device and download the FW to join again? I suspect your end device had joined other Zigbee network and keep the network information on its NV so it refuses to join a new one.

I had already tried erasing & reprogramming many times. Also NV_RESTORE & NV_INIT is disabled in both coordinator & endevice.

I suggest you to set a breakpoint in " case ZDO_NWK_DISC_CNF:" of ZDApp_ProcessOSALMsg() on device side to check why it doesn't send association request to join.

Hi,

I had made some progress on the issue. Below attached is my latest sniffer log. From that we can see that on giving permit join from TI Demo App running on gateway the packet is sent but the device is not getting listed in the device list of the demo app, What may be the issue?

I see the device keep doing association request and coordinator does association response. Which Z-Stack version do you use? Do you modify anything on SampleLight example when you test this?

When I used sample switch as coordinator also am not able to join. I am not even able to associate both. Below is the sniffer log.

Do you use original SampleSwitch and SampleLight to test this? Or you modify something on them? According to your sniffer log, the device doesn't send association request after it receives beacon frames. I still suggest you to set a breakpoint in " case ZDO_NWK_DISC_CNF:" of ZDApp_ProcessOSALMsg() on device side to check why it doesn't send association request to join.

But in the case when I was using ZNP image as coordinator it was giving association request and enddevice was getting added to the node network but when permit join was given the enddevice was not joining the coordinator. What may be the possible issue?

When I test this with original SampleLight and SampleSwitch, it always work. So, do you change anything on those two examples when you test them?

Hi Mariya,

Regarding your question, the destination PAN ID and Address in the beacon request must be 0xFFFF because the joining device must ask all the possible devices in all possible PANs to perform the discovery of the networks as it does not know what devices exists in which PANs in a given channel.

Regarding your issue with with the sample applications, I see you are using custom hardware, so I would like you to try with the binaries attached, which I have tested to work on TI's Evaluation boards, these binaries were tested to create a network and join the network, so can you try with this?, if those do not work, can you describe the changes done to the custom boards against TI's evaluation boards?, may be we need to trigger joining process for ZED automatically or something like that....

Aditionally, I have notice that ZC do not send the transport key which is being expected by joining device (notice that ZC link status frames are not encrypted in nwk layer), so probably you are using a ZC that do not have security enabled and ZED is expecting this.

Hi ,

You were right security was the issue. I had enddevice with security and coordinator with no security. So I enabled the security for the coordinator and now able to join two devices and the device list is getting updated in the TI Demo App. But when I give the ON/OFF command from the demo app eventhough the packets are going fine as shown in the sniffer the device is not getting ON/OFF. Is there anything am missing?

On giving the command from the demo app its giving the following error :

I see GW sends ON/OFF command to device 0x7EAD but the device responds that it's unsupported command. I think your device 0x7EAD doesn't support ON/OFF cluster. Is device 0x7EAD based on any example of Z-Stack?

Yes its based on samplelight application.

As I know, SampleLight uses 0x08 as endpoint. However, your ON/OFF command is sent to endpoint 0x0E.

You should set destination endpoint of ON/OFF command to 0x08.

Which GW do you run? Is it based on Z-Stack Linux Home GW reference design or you write your own?

I am using the default zstack linux gateway from TI with my custom hardware.

If you use default zstack linux gateway from TI, it should work with SampleLight. Can you use sniffer to log everything from SampleLight starting joining GW and them GW send ON/OFF command?
