RF smart studio_RSSI reading issue

I am using SmartRF studio7 version 2.6.0.

Here is my conducted setup:

a.  Connect module to Smart RF studio by using CC debugger.

b.  Enable Range extender and select CC2591 with High Gain mode

c.  Select frequency 

d.  Select “Packet RX”  

e.  Click “Start” button.

 f.   Connect the RF cable between module and test equipment (with zigbee waveform) and start measure.

Is there any missing with the setup?

We just verified in the lab a working setup which is not too different from yours. Instead of a ZigBee test eqpt. we used another CC2530 as a packet transmitter and a CC2530+CC2591 as a receiver in HGM. The RSSI reported by the receiving unit was within 1dB across the range. We did conducted tests and used SmartRF studio.

Did you measure the output power from your ZigBee tester with a power meter or spectrum analyser?

The power transmit is -30dBm, 

Modulation type: OQPSK,

Chip Rate: 2M chip/s,

Filter: Half-sine.

Other than this few parameter, what else is missing?

I did try the to send the packet from CC2530 to another CC2530 to receive packet.

Setup and the results as below:

From the results, the RSSI showing that No_range_extender > LGM >HGM.

You have to be very careful when connecting two boards directly to each other using a low loss coaxial connection. You will end up with too much power entering the receiver and possibly damaging the receiver. In our datasheets we mention the limit in our "Absolute maximum" section. I recommend using a spectrum analyzer to verify the signal output from each unit first, then add enough attenuation to be able to reduce the power to something like -40dBm and then you use that for your tests.
