Hello, we are using the CC2520 with simpliciTI protocol stack and we need to connect it to a pc, which will simulate the behavior of a remote device over simpliciTI.

We simply need a usb dongle (or EVB) and an API, which allow to send and receive data over zigbee/simpliciTI from a custom PC application.

Is there an API in python, matlab or C++ available on PC side that allow to control the communication using a USB dongle?

Giovanni,

No, not that I am aware of. I think the best starting point would be to use TeraTerm ( or some other terminal program) and then type in UART commands on the console.

Is there an example I can use to connect a board to the PC for serial communication?

is it possible to use for example the CC2531 USB evaluation "dongle" (which can be used as packet sniffer) to do the job?

It is no problem to use CC2531 USB dongle running Zigbee protocol and connect to PC to do Zigbee communication.

Do you mean using the "rf_modem" firmware application and using the USB virtual COM?
Does this support simpliciTI?
How do I pair/connect to the remote device using the USB dongle?

It looks the good direction, however what we need is to automatize with a Python script the connection setup and send/receive data over simpliciTI.
Is there an API which can be used to control the ZTool or a description of the serial commands sent by the ZTool?
Is there an application note or a demo script?

ZTool use MT command which you can refer to Z-Stack Monitor and Test API.pdf and Z-Stack ZNP Interface Specification.pdf under Z-Stack document folder.

could you please provide a simple sequence of serial commands to be sent over the serial (or using ZTool) to setup a connection to a peer device and start sending and receiving messages?

The latest Z-Stack version is 3.0.1 and you can refer to sunmaysky.blogspot.tw/.../use-ztool-z-stack-30-znp-to-set-up.html which shows you basic step to setup a ZC and a ZR to join the network. ZC and ZR can communicate to each other after ZR joins ZC network.

as I understand, the serial solution is the only one available today, correct?

Could SmartRF Studio be used in any way for this purpose?

SmartRF Studio is for RF test and not suitable for application.
