I have a customer who asked me this question today. According to the below app note written in 2014, we could get perhaps past 400. My customer is trying to figure out a way to link 5000 nodes, all packed together closely indoors. (think data center)
There is a BLE mesh in the new BT5, but we don't think a flood mesh will work.
I suspect this has been a much discussed question, wondering if anyone has any sort of answer.
