CC2538: deciding which Zigbee platform

Hi everybody,

I am thinking about starting a new ZigBee project. The platform I finally choose will depend on the answers of the following questions:

  1. Regarding CC2538, I have read several posts about its high power consumption and few code space (since it has been around some years). Can you confirm that? Also, is CC2538 reaching end-of-life soon?
  2. Regarding CC265x, is TI's ZigBee stack for this platform as mature as the one for CC2538? Which parts of it are not available for this newer platform when compared to CC2538?
  3. Finally, is there any existing (or arriving soon) chip, SoC, platform or family from TI that I should consider?

Ok, let's see which are your opinions!

Have a really nice day :)

  • Hi,

The CC2538 has plenty of code space to spare with Z-Stack 3.0.1, the CC2530/CC2531 platform is the one that is currently struggling a bit with code space with Z-Stack 3.0.1.

The CC2630/CC2650 platform only supports (legacy profile) Z-Stack Home 1.2.2a and only in the End Device or ZNP (network processor) configurations.

The upcoming CC2652 supports all configurations and has plenty of code space to spare and this platform supports the latest release, SimpleLink Zigbee SDK Plugin v0.95 (zigbee 3.0 compliant), available here:

Please contact your local TI representative for more roadmap information regarding the CC26x2 platform.
