CC2530: Lowest power consumption of end device!

Hello everyone,

I have making a smart system by using cc2530 + RFX2401.

I am using Z-Stack3.0.1.

Here, POLL_RATE of end device is 1000 and use POWER_SAVING.

I have some issue in power consumption of end device.

1) When end device connect with coordinator,consumption current of end device is 13uA(Min) ~ 3mA(max).

2)When end device disconnect with coordinator, consumption current of end device is 13uA(Min) ~ 36mA(max).

I have test other RF products but those's current consumption is 1uA ~ 120uA.

Of course, these receive message from coordinator in standby status.

I want to reduce lowest standby current of end device.

Please help me.

The only way is to increase poll rate to, for example 10000.

Hi YK Sir.

You are right.

But For other RF product that I test, it receive message from coordinator soon when coordinator send message to end device.

I think that poll_rate of that is 1000.

Else Those use another communication?

I don’t think those products only consume 120uA in average when they use polling to receive data.

YK Sir.

I have that product now and I am testing it now.
This products consume 30uA in average when they use polling to receive data.

I see those products used CC2530 too so you can use sniffer to check their poll rate. The only difference is you add RFX2401 as PA/LNA which would consume much more power.

YK Chen Sir.

I did scan all 16 channels to capture packet of this product.

I captured packet on 18 channel.

When I send command to end device through coordinator with iphone app only, I can capture packet.

Then captured packets is strange.

I attached sniffer log file.

I think that this product run strange.

I hope your opinion.

Can you take a picture to show me which 3rd party device you are measuring power consumption and how you measure it?

According to your pictures, I cannot see how much current is consumed by the device in different cases. We usually use power Analyzer or scope instead of current meter to do power consumption measurement.

Consumption current of this RF product is changed from 0.6 uA to 30uA.

I think this measurement method that I use.

Because I found that standby current of my design product is 13uA ~ 36mA.

And it strange that sniffer log cann't decrypte.

Maybe those products use proprietary Zigbee protocol. You can try to do sniffer including device association process to see if sniffer can decrypt it. When you use general current meter, it’s difficult to judge what happens. I suggest you to use scope or power Analyzer to do more precise measurements.

I think so.
To test this product,My operations are as followings.
1. I did register IEEE address of coordinator on iPhone app(gsmart life).
(I get IEEE address through QR code and QR code is included in product.)
2. I did register IEEE address of end device on iPhone app(gsmart life).
3. In iPhone app, I pressed command button for registered end device.
Then Consumption current of end device increase 28mA.
After about 5 second,power consumption of end device decrease 0.6 ~ 30uA again.

Whenever I press command button on iPhone app, sniffer captured packet.(I have attached already log file)

I cannot help on this topic since they seems not run standard Zigbee. Maybe try to use Ubiqua Protocol Analyzer to see if it can capture messages correctly.
