RTOS/CC2530: Z stack indirect messages timeout and indirect messages queue

I use СС2530 as a router and coordinator.

I use Z-Stack Home 1.2.2.

1. I'm sending a indirect message to ZED. If the ZED is power off or out of range, I will not receive a response from the ZED.

How can I understand that there was no response ? Is there any event if there is a indirect messages timeout?

2. If I send several messages, they are queued.

How can I find out how many messages are in the queue at the moment (in the buffer)?

1. If you are sending an indirect message to a ZED (i.e. a non-immediate TX message), the ZED must MAC data poll it's parent before it is able to receive this message. If the ZED does not poll it's parent before NWK_INDIRECT_MSG_TIMEOUT seconds (7 by default in f8wConfig.cfg), the message will be expired from the NWK buffer on the parent device. If a message is expired, you will receive a ZStatus_t return value of ZMacTransactionExpired on the sender.

2. nwkDB_CountIndirectHold() from nwk_bufs.h will return how many indirect messages are currently queued.

I suggest you to enable APS ack when sending message. If there’s no APS ack, it means message isn’t delivered to device.

1. OK. I increased NWK_INDIRECT_MSG_TIMEOUT to 30 seconds.

I'm sending a request to ZED.

If after 30 seconds the ZED is not polled the coordinator, there must be some event in which I can learn ZStatus_t. What event should happen? How can I find out what ZStatus_t = ZMacTransactionExpired?

2. Is there a function that returns how many messages are queued for a particular ZED, for example with a short address of 0x5431?

As I know, there’s no such specific functions for both item 1 and 2.

How can I determine if the ZED is power off or out of range?
Can you provide a sample code?

You can send an active endpoint request periodically. If there’s no response, it means device is off or out of radio coverage.

If you cannot get active endpoint response, it means device is off or out of radio coverage. Another alternative is to let device to send supervision signal periodically. If there’s no supervision received for a while, it means device is off or out of radio coverage.

If there was no response from the device, will there be an event on the z stack? Or should I decide by myself in application that there was no answer? For example, run a timer?

You should decide by yourself and do it in your application with a timer.
