location engine software questions

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2431, MAX3232, Z-STACK

hello

Iam very new into the location engine technology of the cc2431. recently i downloaded the location engine software, tried to use it and i have some questions:

1) Is it possible to use location engine software only via COM port and not with USB and COM???

If i can use it only via COM ... can i have a location dongle based on CC2431 (programmed with location dongle firmware) that will have as hardware the CC2431 chip and 3.3v RS-232 transceiver that will convert rs-232 signals to 3.3v TTL and use the following signals:

CC2431 P0.3 > CC2431 UART TX - PC  RX

CC2431 P0.2 > CC2431 UART RX - PC  TX

CC2431 P0.5 > PC  RTS

CC2431 P0.4 > PC  CTS

2) can anybody explain me or give me a document link in order to understand the differences between the different versions of firmware supported with location engine software???

any help is welcome!!

  • Have you downloaded LocDongle on our SRF04EB with CC243xEM?

Do this and then try to run the following program,

    Z-Location:

    http://www.ti.com/litv/zip/swrc070c

    or

    LE Monitor:

    http://www.ti.com/litv/zip/swrc082

  • LPRF thanks for your effort to answer but you didnt answer to my questions.

I know LE software and LEmonitor software. I also use  SRF04EB to download firmware on cc2431 chips...

what i am trying to do is to build a very small board that will have the cc2431 as location dongle and it will be connected with PC only via UART (not USB -- the chip is preprogrammed with dongle firmware) and is connected with a real UART (not usb to com adapter) via a MAX3232 rs232 level converter for 3.3v (i use RX,TX, RTS,CTS see my first message about connections)

according to the manuals the location engine software uses com port for communication and usb for power supply and fw download...based on this i assume that since the chip is preprogrammed and i supply the chip via 3.3v regulator...then i dont need usb and i can work only with uart

i did the hardware test with only cc2431 and max3232 and a 3.3 regulator and the LE & LEmonitor software give "dongle: disconnected"

ALSO no answer about the firmware versions... i refer to the supplied hex files provided with LE and LEmonitor software... the only file that gives some info is the readme.txt that has some info "compile parameters"...but is not complete... its only a part of it (check it by yourself). So finaly i dont know the 3 versions of blind, ref and dongle nodes when they are used.... can you provide any info about these???

    ========

    and a last question

while i was trying to find Z-Stack for the cc2431 i realized that it is removed for ti site.......DOES THIS MEAN THAT SINCE THE CC2431 CHIP IS THE ONLY LOCATION ENGINE CHIP OF TEXAS (AND THE ONLY CHIP WORLDWIDE....) THAT TI STOPS OFFICIALY TO SUPPORT LOCATION ENGINE TECHNOLOGY?????

    thank you for your time

    best regards

  • GV:

Let us try to debug your application and HW

    1. Have you verified that your HW receive commands on RX line?
    2. Have you verified that the correct Baud Rate is set and other important settings?
    3. Have you verifed that  your need is able to transmit something on the TX line to PC?
    4. Have you verified with a Serial Monitor what is going on on your UART? Check out PortMon

Another suggestion would be to capture a session with Z-Location and SRF4EB, and compare to your board

Yes we are still supporting the location engine.

  • Sir..

    I AM SARANYA

I HAVE SOME PROBLEMS IN CONNECTING CC2431 TO Z-LOCATION SOFTWARE..

WHEN I CONNECT THE  CC2431 TO Z-LOCATION SOFTWARE, IT ALWAYS SHOWS  DONGLE:DISCONNECTED

    MY SERIAL PORT CONNECTION IS:

    CC2431 TX PIN (P1.6)

    CC2431 RX PIN (P1.7)

DB-9MALE CONNECTER IN CC2431 BOARD RTS AND CTS PINS ARE INTERCONNECTED

    PLEASE HELP ME.....
