CC2538: Can't do Receiver Sensitivity Test

Part Number: CC2538
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2530

Hi everyone,

I use SmartRF Studio7 (v2.9.0)  to test the sensitivity of CC2538 module, the result failed. As the same way, to test the sensitivity of CC2530 module, it’s ok. Could you please tell me how to solve the issue?

    Test Environment is:

 Regards,
 Gang Zhou

  • What level of sensitivity are you measuring ?
  •        We use the RF testing instrument ( the model is IQxel ) generate RF testing sigal, instead of "Interference Source"。For the module of CC2530, we can get the result of receiver sensitivity, it's about -97dB (our standard goal is -92dB)。For  the module of CC2538, we can't get the result of receiver sensitivity.

Remove the RF testing instrument ( IQxel ), instead with CC2530 (module)or CC2538(module) to generate testing packet. Find out : the speed of  the module of CC2538 TX or RF Data is too slow, compare with CC2530. Further, we find that CC2538 use JTAG(2 wires)to connect with SmartRF Studio7. However,  CC2530 use special debug interface (2 wires, P2.1/P2.2)to connect with SmartRF Studio7。For the same data packets, the different interface leads to different speed, the following pictures are their waves.

  • Hi,
Have you tested several CC2538 modules ?
Have you tested with a TI CC2538 EM ?
Do you have the schematic of your CC2538 module ?
    Regards,
    Richard
  • Hi,RGW:

I have tested four ours CC2538 modules and two third CC2538 EM, their picture is following:

We have no TI CC2538 EM, so we haven't tested it.

I suspect strongly that the two wires JTAG interface protocol leads to the issue, for above wave picture (via oscilloscope) and the following test data(Magbe we should change the parameters of  SmartRF studio, or use other interface (e.g UART) ,but we don't know how do it. ):
