CC2530: In sleep mode, HAL_LED isn't as bright

Hi,

Whenever I put the CC2530 into sleep mode, I noticed that when the HAL_LED blinks, it is much dimmer than when it was in non-sleep mode. Is it possible to put the CC2530 in sleep mode, but allow the HAL_LED to still receive normal power when it blinks?

Hi Jack,
Which hardware are you observing this on?
How is the LED circuit wired to the device?
It is not possible to have the LED on while the chip sleeps because the control signal is coming from the chip.

Actually, CC2530 would wake up to do LED blink and go back to sleep so it should be no difference.

The LED is wired from P1.2 to GND

When the CC2530 is polling every 1 sec, I notice that the CC2530 does wake up so that it can doing RX & TX. Is it possible to do something similar for waking up the CC2530 every time the LED needs to blink?

I suppose you can do LED blink in hal_sleep().

I do blink the LED, but it's just not as bright when the CC2530 is in sleep mode. So how can I make the LED brighter?

I suppose you can enlarge percent and period parameters of API HalLedBlink to make it brighter.

I use this: HalLedSet(HAL_LED_2, HAL_LED_MODE_FLASH) : to make the LED blink. Is there a way to make the LED blink brighter with this?

You can try to change HAL_LED_DEFAULT_DUTY_CYCLE.

That just makes the LED on-time longer, not brighter though.

No, you cannot change GPO output voltage.

I have replied you that it should be no difference since CC2530 always wakes up when it do LED blink. You can use scope to check the GPO.

I found out that when the CC2530 was in non-sleep mode, when the LED blinked, the scope showed this.

However, when the CC2530 was in sleep mode, when the LED blinked, the scope showed this.

It appears that when the CC2530 is in sleep mode, the LED doesn't stay on for the entire ON-period. How could I fix this?

Try to comment out "HalLedEnterSleep();" and "HalLedExitSleep();" in "void halSleep( uint32 osal_timeout )" to test again.

That fixed my problem. Why was this code needed in the first place? Also, are there any other potential problems I might have by removing this code?

That code would turn off all LEDs by default before making device enters PM2 for saving power. The potential problem would be higher power consumption if you disable it.

"HalLedEnterSleep();" would turn off your LED before device goes to PM2 and "HalLedExitSleep();" would turn on LED right after device is out of PM2 so the LED is OFF during device is in sleep and this make your LED blink is not as bright as it should be when device is not sleeping.

I noticed that when the CC2530 is connected to ZC (and sleeping), when I send an on/off command to the CC2530, the LED blinks at a normal brightness. This is also the same when I press an interrupt button. Why is this so?

I suppose that is because in that case the device doesn't go to sleep mode at that moment or go to sleep mode but waking up shortly that another case.
