CC2538: NV item cannot be restored after rebooting on Z-Stack 3.0.1

Hello,

Recently, we ported our application to 3.0.1 and found out that NV items cannot be restored correctly after rebooting which did work on old Z-Stack version. The restored values are always zero. We double checked the values stored in NVRAM before rebooting. After reboot, however, the values are all zero. In 3.0.1, is there anything new to NVRAM? What would be the root cause about the failure of restoring values from NVRAM?

Do you mean you enable NV_RESTORE but it doesn’t work?

In old version, we disabled it but it still worked. In 3.0.1, it does not matter enabled or disabled, none of them worked.

That means either enable or disable NV_RESTORE does not work. In old version, we just disabled NV_RESTORE and created entries in zgItemTable[].

I still couldn't understand what you mean either enable or disable NV_RESTORE does not work. What deosn't work? When I enable/disable NV_RESTORE in Z-Stack 3.0.1 original examples, all work fine.

Can you restore your values after rebooting? "Does not work" means I cannot restore those values stored in NVRAM after rebooting. It did work in this way before.

Yes, I can restore network status with NV_RESTORE on my CC2538DK. Do you use CC2538DK?

Yes, CC2538DK. I created my NV items reserved for applications and added entries in zgItemTable[] as before. In 3.0.1, it failed to restore after rebooting. Not sure what caused this failure.

original examples? No, I justed added and tested our own NVRAM items. Which examples can I use for debugging? Which examples can I get the values stored before rebooting and get them after rebooting?

I mean if you don't add your own NVRAM items and codes, just use original example and do you still see the issue?

To elaborate on what you should try to test out from the examples in the SDK, can you just test this out with a SampleSwitch/SampleLight example that is included with Z-Stack 3.0.1?

Ensure that the devices have NV_RESTORE enabled, then after you have formed a network with the two Zigbee devices, turn the ZC or ZED off, and back on. If you did ZC, see if it reforms the network, if you turned off the ZED, see if it is able to rejoin the network.

I found out the minor changes between the old version and 3.0.1. In ZGlobal.c, I enabled or disabled NV_RESTORE and my application status will always be set to default value due to following changes. I created new entries for our own application in zgItemTable[].

This condition only applies when you set start up option to ZCD_STARTOPT_DEFAULT_CONFIG_STATE with NV_RESTORE enable.

Where can we set startup option to ZCD_STARTOPT_DEFAULT_CONFIG_STATE? Do we have to do this? In the old version, I dont think this flag was set and it skipped this condition check. That was why we can restore our previous app states upon rebooting and they were never set to default values, e.g. zero.

I'd recommend looking at the ZNP guide.

The ZCD_STARTOPT_DEFAULT_CONFIG_STATE is configurable inside the ZCD_NV_STARTUP_OPTION bitmask.

When you want to do factory reset to device, you can set startup option to ZCD_STARTOPT_DEFAULT_CONFIG_STATE and do reset to make it work. In Z-Stack, it will set startup option to ZCD_STARTOPT_DEFAULT_NETWORK_STATE when device receives a leave request without rejoin.
