CC2530: How to build & Flash the ZNP image on CC2530

We have already created the custom board containing CC2530 interfaced with Raspberry pi 3 using SPI interface. We cannot change that connection.

We can use any other version of Z-Stack firmware which supports SPI interface. Can you please help me which version I can use and where i can get it ?

I know Z-Stack Home 1.2.2a can support SPI interface. YOu can download Z-Stack Home 1.2.2a from Z-STACK-ARCHIVE

There are two installer which are present in TI Z-Stack Home 1.2.2 i.e one with TI RTOS and other without TI RTOS. I think that I need to work on without TI RTOS one ? right ?

Also, I need to install IAR embedded workbench to build Z-Stack project to generate Hex File. Can you help me locate the procedure which i can follow directly to build this Z-Stack Home 1.2.2 project?

Yes, you need to work on without TI RTOS one. For how to build Z-Stack examplee using IAR, you can refer to Z-Stack Home Sample Application User's Guide.pdf under C:\Texas Instruments\Z-Stack Home 1.2.2a.44539\Documents after you install Z-Stack Home 1.2.2a.

I am going through the Z-Stack Home Sample Application User Guide. pdf file. There are mainly references to act as a Smart Lightning Controller , smart lock etc. But to be precise I am looking for Z-Stack to work as a Network processor as mentioned in Z-stack Linux gateway.

I couldn't able to find any such references on how to build and which project can be used as ZNP while building from IAR.
Any references that you can help me ?

There is no dedicated section to describe ZNP example. Basically, the steps are the same and you can opne ZNP project under C:\Texas Instruments\Z-Stack Home 1.2.2a.44539\Projects\zstack\ZNP\CC253x with IAR EW8051 9.10.1 to build the ZNP FW.

I am using IAR IDE version 10.30.1. Is that too also works in my case ?

Few small doubts :

1. What is the project Configuration do I need to select t build this project : TestHex, ProdSBL , ProdHEx or something else in IAR ? Nothing is mentioned in user guide regarding this point.

2. Is SPI interface communication is enabled by default in this project if i directly import the project and build it ?

I have only found single preprocessor directive "CC2530_MK" which is being used in configuration of SPI interface. Also, I defined this macro in options--> C/C++ Compiler --> Preprocessor. I hope that is all I need to do to enable SPI interface communication with ZNP ? Please correct in case of any understanding gaps.

Also, I didn't found ny reference to load the Hex fil generated from ProdHex to Cc2530 board using CC2530 debugger. Can you share the steps or any online wiki which is helpful for me to burn the hex file into CC2530 board.

Thanks Yikai and Toby for the support.

Presently, I have connected my CC2530 board to CCDebugger and CCDebugger shows the Green light which means it is able to the detect the board.

But while flashing the Firmware (.hex) to CC2530 from Smart RF Flash Programmer it is not able to list the device (EBID , Chip type , EB type etc.).

What can be the problem, I tried different things but nothing comes up in device list. Also, my CC2530 is not powered up right now through any external source and it is connected with CCDebugger which is then is connected to USB port of my PC. I have read somewhere that CCDebugger itself provides power to the CC2530 board. right ?

I suggest you to give external power to your CC2530 to see if it works.

If CC Debugger shows green light, it means it can recognize CC2530. I suppose you can download hex to CC2530 anyway. Can you do a screenshot of your flash Programmer when CC Debugger shows green light?

Hi Yikai,

It looks like I have found out the problem. Th USB driver for CCDebugger is not installed.

In the Device Manager I can see that CC Debugger driver is not installed. "Cebal – CCxxxx Development Tools USB Driver"

Is this driver available for windows 10 as well ?

You have replied by giving it the cebal files for windows 10. I have downloaded the same files from the above link and copied it into the path :
C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\SmartRF Tools\Drivers\Cebal\win_64bit_x64.

Still this problem is persistent? Do you have installer for Windows 10 which I can use for Cebal installer ?

C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\SmartRF Tools\Drivers\Cebal\win_64bit_x64.

Still the problem is persistent for me.

I suppose you should unzip win_64bit_x64.zip and install the driver inside. Not copy it to that folder.

Do I need to add this preprocessor " ENABLE_MT_SYS_RESET_SHUTDOWN" if I am building ZNP with SPI interface ?

The problem that I am facing right now is that "../tools/gw_soc_fw_version_query.bin /dev/spidev0.0" is not able to query ZNP and is struck ?

Yes, I think you need add preprocessor " ENABLE_MT_SYS_RESET_SHUTDOWN" but I am not sure if your current issue is related to this define.

Just to add to my previous point. These are following pins which I am using for connection.

We are using SPI pin P19 (MOSI), P21(MISO), P23(CLK) and P24(SS) from RPI Pi 3

P1_5 (SLK), P1_4(SS), P1_6(MOSI), P1_7(MISO) from CC2530.

#include "mac_radio_defs.h" needed to be added to MT_SYS.c in order for compiler to play nice with ENABLE_MT_SYS_RESET_SHUTDOWN.

For ZNP SPI interface, I suppose you also need SRDY and MRDY. You can refer to section 2.3 in e2echina.ti.com/.../3731.Z_2D00_Stack-ZNP-Interface-Specification.pdf

I need your guidance in understanding is it possible to interact with custom CC2530 board with ZNP firmware loaded into the Flash memory from Windows connected through CC-Debugger from IAR Embedded Workbench program (I can make a program from API available or it's good if some example program is already available ).

Also, CC-Debugger is able to identify the CC2530 in the SOC.

is the above possible ?

I have one small doubt as per the details in ZNP interface document.pdf file in which cfg0 and cfg1 pins are used to configure CC2530-ZNP.

cfg0 pin is used to indicate the presence or absence of 32KHz crystal connected to the CC2530-ZNP. Since we are not using this crystal so we can left this pin connection open. This detail is clear for me.

Regarding the cfg1 pin which is used for informing whether SPI or UART connection . I have checked it in the code in the file Onboard.c file

The above condition is present in which I have enabled CC2530_MK macro for SPI interface. Since cfg0 corresponds to P1_2 and cfg1 to P2_0.

So, my question is it necessary for me to set cfg1 pin high in my hardware ? Is I am missing anything important while configuring SPI ?

Since you have enabled CC2530_MK macro, it uses SPI interface by default.
