CC2652R: Increase ZED mac poll rate duration but allow bidirectional communication

Hello all,

any parent ZR, ZC/ZNP store the message for ZED up to 7.5 seconds within this time period if ZED does not poll to parent, then parent device will discard the message.

currently, I have set POLL_RATE = 5000.

But I want to increase the duration to significantly high like 1 or 2 minutes or more. and at the same time, I want the ZED to receive the message from ZC/Gateway.

I think you have to increase the message buffer and indirect message timeout value on ZR and ZC/ZNP

1. You can increase the follow defined values in nwk_globals.c
// Maximums for the data buffer queue
#define NWK_MAX_DATABUFS_WAITING 8 // Waiting to be sent to MAC
#define NWK_MAX_DATABUFS_SCHEDULED 5 // Timed messages to be sent
#define NWK_MAX_DATABUFS_CONFIRMED 5 // Held after MAC confirms
#define NWK_MAX_DATABUFS_TOTAL 12 // Total number of buffers
2. Increae NWK_INDIRECT_MSG_TIMEOUT in f8wconfig.opts.

Will I be able to do OTA on ZED after increasing the mac poll rate to 1 minute?

Yes. But it would be even slower. I suggest you to increase polling rate when you do OTA.

There are zcl_poll_control.h and zcl_poll_control.c in ZCL folder but you have to add it by yourself.

An example of changing poll rate on ZED:

zstack_sysConfigWriteReq_t writeReq;
memset(&writeReq, 0x00, sizeof(zstack_sysConfigWriteReq_t));
writeReq.has_pollRate = true;
writeReq.pollRate = 15000; // poll every 15 secs
Zstackapi_sysConfigWriteReq(appServiceTaskId, &writeReq);
