RTOS/CC2652R: polling code to check if parent gone.

What do you mean “use to poll if the parent gone?”

In spes:

Polling can completely be disabled by setting the POLL_RATE to 0 (if the device should not receive data); however, this may lead to high latency as the device, when waking up, first must poll and if the parent is gone, the ZED must re-join the network again before it is able to send its data. This can take a long time, and become a problem if the network in the meantime changed channels or security key.

Hi Ryan,

For battery power devices, it will always have problem keeping alive with coordinator.

So, we  are thinking of just set to deep sleep (poll rate zero). Then when need to send something, it is ok to find if parent is active then setup again if needed.

Do you recommend such approach?

Because for poll rate of 60 secs will give us a lifetime of 6 months for sensors doing nothing...

If we set poll rate to  recommend poll rate =0  to set deep sleep then just re join when needed?

Yes, you can set polling rate to 0. However, end device might need rejoining when it wakes up to send message but find it loses connection.

Z-Stack 3.x would do this automatically.

The poll rate can be set to much longer than 60 seconds as the child aging timeout period can be as long as 16,384 minutes (refer to nwk_globals.c and zglobals.h for more information) and SWRA625 documents some general use cases to help determine battery longevity: http://www.ti.com/lit/swra625

In srw625, there is a need to shutdown ext flash using  Board_shutDownExtFlash. 

Do I need to do this if no ext flash on board or during ext ota enabled?

CC2652 specs says power consumption in cases like these:

Sensor Controller, Low Power-Mode, 2 MHz, running infinite loop: 30.8 μA

Sensor Controller, Active-Mode, 24 MHz, running infinite loop: 808 μA

Standby: 0.94 µA (RTC on, 80KB RAM and CPU retention)

Which CLK running during standby say poll rate =0 ?

If you don’t use external flash, no need to call Board_shutDownExtFlash. When device is under sleep, it runs on 32K crystal.
