Hello,
we have an installation in testing with:

coordinator (cc2530 - ZNP interface);
16 routers (cc2530 - Z-stack derived firmware);
2 end devices (of a third party company) in testing.

For testing purpose we have reset the 2 end device more than one time and (in some cases) turned off all the routers.

After a while we notice that one end device can't rejoin the network. The sniffing trace suggests that the coordinator is full as we can see from the "Router/EndDevice Capacity" flag. In that moment all routers are off. But, after the reset, we are sure that the device was connected directly to the coordinator. So why it can't rejoin with a "new" network address?

Is it possible that resetting and rejoining the same device causes an increasing of the coordinator "capacity"? How can we fix this bug?

Hello Antonio,

Looking at your previous thread history it is assumed that you are using a Z-Stack 1.2.2a ZC and 3.0.1 ZR/ZEDs. You are also aware of the Known Issues Wiki and CC2530 Optimization guide. The maximum number of child devices (ZED) which can be directly connected to the ZC are determined by the NWK_MAX_DEVICE_LIST definition in nwk_globals.h, and the number of neighbors (ZR) is controlled by MAX_NEIGHBOR_ENTRIES. You may have already seen these since you would also need to modify NWK_MAX_ROUTERS for your configuration. If you are resetting ZEDs to factory new then the ZC is creating additional table entries for the "new" devices and thus unnecessarily taking up memory space. This is not cleaned up properly with child aging as done with the Z-Stack 3.0 implementation. You can provide sniffer logs on the forum if needed.

Hello Ryan,
thank you for the support. Yes, it is all correct. We are upgrading the ZC firmware to the last Z-Stack, but, in some installation, we can't update it, so we have to maintain also the old firmware.

In this situation, the only way to fix this issue is to reset the ZC and to rejoin all devices? Do you have some hints?

And why do you menthion NWK_MAX_ROUTERS? I read in old posts that the define is unused, isn't it?

You can try to use AssocReset to remove all devices from the list and reset it.

Please follow YiKai's advice if possible, however if you do not know which devices are false/duplicates then you will have to factory reset the ZC.

You are correct, gNWK_MAX_SLEEPING_END_DEVICES = NWK_MAX_DEVICES - NWK_MAX_ROUTERS but gNWK_MAX_SLEEPING_END_DEVICES is unused and therefore NWK_MAX_ROUTERS is not needed.

Sorry for late reply.

But the AssocReset() function causes all devices in the ZigBee network must be reset for rejoining? Does the function have some advantages instead of resetting the ZC?

If you reset ZC, you will need to factory reset all device to join ZC from scratch and I believe it will be much more annoying.

yes, I kwon.

I don't know what happens after calling the AssocReset function. All devices (ZR and ZED) already joined still remain in the network? Or freeing the table the communication breaks down and I have to reset them as well as a ZC reset?

ZR will stay and ZED would do rejoin process.
