CC2531EMK: No packets captured from Wireshark using ZBOSS Sniffer

Hello,

I have a CC2531EMK dongle which I would like to use to sniff ZigBee communications.

I tried to follow various examples of how to set the CC2531 up but to no avail.

I could not capture any packets after launching Wireshark from the ZBOSS Sniffer.

Can someone help?

Hello Terence,

Please reference the Zigbee Sniffing Packet Solutions E2E post and provide further details as to what specific issues you are encountering. Please note that the CC2531EMK firmware has not been validated with Wireshark software for a while now. You would have a greater chance of success using PACKET-SNIFFER 1, Ubiqua, or a SimpleLink LaunchPad with Wireshark.

Hi Ryan,

Thanks for the recommendations. For the Packet Sniffer 1, is it okay for the CC2531EMK to be detected as a cebal controlled device or is it supposed to be a COM port? This is because I can't seem to capture the packets between ZigBee devices using the SmartRF Packet Sniffer. I am quite sure that I am correct with choosing "ZigBee 2007/PRO" and as for channels in the Radio Configuration, I tried changing from 0B to 1A but couldn't get anything out of it.

TO use ZBOSS Sniffer, you need to download attached hex into your CC2531EMK. Since TI already provide wireshark plugin to work with CC2531EMK as Zigbee sniffer, I suggest you refer to Zigbee Sniffing Packet Solutions and use it for your convenience.

Hi Yi Kai,

When I launch the ZBOSS Sniffer, it does not show my CC2531EMK as one of the COM port.

Correct me if I am wrong. So I am required to have CC debugger in order to use the ZBOSS sniffer? I currently do not have one though. Is there any workarounds that you may know?

Yes, you have to buy CC debugger to program CC2531EMK to use ZBOSS sniffer.
