CC2642R: SmartRF Studio 7 not able to open Device Control Panel for CC2642R

Part Number: CC2642R
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2640, CC2652R, LAUNCHXL-CC26X2R1

Hi all,

I am trying to connect a CC2642 mounted on a custom board via TI SensorTag DevPack (XDS110) to SmartRF Studio 7 V2.9.0.

I constantly get the following error while entering the control panel:

I was able to connect using the same configuration and a CC2640 mounted on a custom board.

The CC2642 mounted on the custom board is operational using IAR.

How can I connect the CC2642 to the smart RF studio? Should I purchase a different JTAG Debug Probe?

  • Hi Omer,

I could not replicate. Although it's a CC2652 that I used, they should behave the same. I used SmartRF Studio 2.9.0 and the XDS firmware on the debug devpack was version 2.3.0.12 (run /c/ti/ccsv8/ccs_base/common/uscif/xds110/xdsdfu -e to list).

You can manually upgrade/downgrade the firmware version by doing xdsdfu -m, then xdsdfu.exe -f firmware.bin -r while in that folder above.

If updating the XDS firmware doesn't help let me know and I can notify the tools team.

    Best regards,
    Aslak
  • It is possible to connect to CC2652R via XDS110. The firmware gets updated when using SmartRF Studio or IAR to the latest.

As I understand it, you are able to program and debug the CC2652R on your custom board via IAR. If that is the case it sounds like the JTAG interface as such works. I assume that you have checked that only SmartRF Studio is trying to access the XDS110 (IAR or other programs are not connected)
  • Thank you Aslak and Ter,
I have tried using the LAUNCHXL-CC26X2R1. The SmartRF Studio was able to connect to the onboard CC2652.
I also tried to disconnect all the jumpers and connect the onboard JTAG Debug Probe XDS110 to my CC2642 mounted on the custom board, with no success. The same problem appears as in my previous message.

No other programs were open while trying to connect to the CC2642

  • Hi Omer,

Unfortunately I don't have an actual 2642 to test. A likely cause of the problem has been found related to 2642 specifically in SRFStudio, but it will take some time to verify and release.

    Best regards,
    Aslak
  • Hi,

We have an alpha build that might fix the issue you are seeing. I still don't have a real device so I would be grateful if you could help test. Let me know and I can send you a link on the email address you registered with on this forum.

    Best regards,
    Aslak
  • Thank you Aslak,

Please send me the link and I will test the alpha software.
