CC1120 and SimpliciTI

Hi folks,

this subject was already posted (http://e2e.ti.com/support/low_power_rf/f/155/t/134498.aspx) but this is a slightly different point of view.

we are about to develop a proprietary wireless application and we have found that SimpliciTI is the best platform for our needs; for our application also CC1100 could satisfy RF link requirements, but in the past we had to develop long range applications , and from this point of view (and immunity to interferences) it would be better for us to use CC1120 .

my question is twofold:

- does TI have any time schedule in their plan to include CC1120 support in SimpliciTI?

- Provided that TI's schedule is far in time, and given that Minimal RF interface layer in SimpliciTI is quite simple, I think that developing by our own an extension for CC1120 in that layer should not be an overwhelming work, perhaps losing something (CC1120 has a lot of functions embedded in hardware). Don't you think so?

can you help us in getting some confidence about the test level of this SimpliciTI release with CC1120 ?

This release has been well debugged?

Hi Leo, sorry for the double reply.

Referring to SimpliciTI in general , and not only to CC1120 compatibility, the TI's great delay in updating SimpliciTI with CC1120 has raised in me and in my colleagues the doubt that your company in the last time invested poor resources in SimpliciTI development.

Is this true or not ? Which is the importance that TI gives to SimpliciTI and which will the foreseen life of this tool ? Did you estimate how many users of SimpliciTI are there in the commercial market and which will be the growth of users in the future ? TI has planned to put some effort in SimpliciTI maintenance and development in the next years?

Vasco,

We are not going to be adding more features to SimpliciTI, however we will keep supporting it and adding support for newer radios. The beta release that Leo pointed to is the most up to date we have.

I understood that this beta version does not add new features but adds support for the newest radio chips.

What is not clear for me is why TI does not upgrade the official release to the newest version. Official support for CC1120 in SimpliciTI was announced to be soon released many months ago.

Do you know if there is a schedule for the new official release ?
